This blistering retort from Ron Ewart, President of the National Association of Rural Landowners:
There was neither a personal interview with Mr. Gilchrist, nor was there one single interview with any attendee to the meeting, much less any of the candidates that spoke. But there were at least 3 interviews with the 15 protestors outside the meeting. In other words, King 5 TV’s focus was on the protestors, not the travesty that is illegal immigration.
Last week we sent out a press release that an Illegal Immigration Summit would be held in Everett, Washington, on Saturday June 30th, sponsored by the Reagan Wing of the Republican Party and by the Minutemen American Defense of Washington State. Over 100 concerned American conservative citizens, paying $30.00 each, on a sunny Saturday evening, gathered to hear from the founder of the Minutemen Project, Jim Gilchrist, talk about the travesty that is illegal immigration. He called it an Illegal Alien Invasion and he pulled no punches. His focus was on the rule of law, not some wild-eyed radical mindset as has been portrayed by many on both sides of this debate, including our own president. He reiterated that If illegal immigration is left unchecked, the consequences for America, its legal citizens and its sovereignty, are dire indeed. The meeting was moderated by the eloquent and very capable Doug Parris of the Reagan Wing and there were at least 15 other speakers, your humble correspondent among them, but mostly candidates for conservative offices in Washington State and Washington DC. We heard from the Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and Ron Paul presidential campaigns, as well. All of us spoke against the Illegal Alien Invasion and how the U. S. Congress is selling American sovereignty to the lowest bidder for votes. All speakers were honest, blunt and straight forward. They truly love America and don’t want to see it destroyed by an out-of-control invasion from people who do not respect our borders, much less our laws. They are seething with anger at a government that would allow such an invasion to exist for so long, without taking meaningful action. Not comprehensive immigration reform that rewards lawbreaking with citizenship, but an action to shut down a border so porous that well over 1,000,000 aliens invade our country every single year. Many at the meeting were whispering to each other, the possibility of a revolution or a civil war, if this condition goes on much longer. No one wants to believe that this drastic direction for our country would be necessary. Outside were about 15 so-called piece protestors, waving signs and weird flags. One American flag had been morphed. The stars were removed and a piece sign inserted in their place. These folks would even desecrate the American flag for their own contorted agenda. In one instance, the American flag was on a pole with two flags, below the other flag. In reading and viewing the news accounts of this important Summit, the uninformed reader or viewer would think that all the attendees and speakers were bigots and racists. Hardly!
On the Seattle King 5 TV sound bite, 40 seconds in length, 15 seconds went to a video clip of Mr. Gilchrist speaking about the rule of law and 25 seconds went to interviews with the protestors outside on the street who believe in anarchy.
The article in the Sunday Seattle Times, although containing a little more detail, again was slanted towards the protestors and not the meeting. (See: http://archives.seattletimes.nwsource.com/cgi-bin/texis.cgi/web/vortex/display?slug=summit01m&date=20070701&query=Ken+Armstrong) The hard, simple truth of the matter is, if you are looking for a true representation of what went on at a certain event, you aren’t going to find it in the print or electronic media. What you will get is the event being slanted or distorted to “fit” a specific ideological agenda of that particular news outlet. In the end, the view of our world has become the perverted image of a purposely curved mirror and truth is the loser. If our message of freedom, liberty, property rights, constitutional principles, eminent domain and the invasion of our country by lawbreakers is going to reach the masses, it isn’t going to be through what Rush Limbaugh has described as the drive-by media. We will have to find other venues for our message, and we are.
The National Association of Rural Landowners (NARLO) is a non-profit corporation, duly licensed in the State of Washington. It was formed in response to draconian land use ordinances that were passed by King County in Washington State (Seattle) in the late Fall of 2004, after vociferous opposition from rural landowners. NARLO’s mission is to begin the long process of restoring, preserving and protecting Constitutional property rights and returning this country to a Constitutional Republic. Government has done a great job of dividing us up into little battle groups where we are essentially impotent at a national level. We will change all that with the noisy voices and the vast wealth tied up in the land of the American rural landowner. The land is our power, if we will just use that power, before we lose it. We welcome donations and volunteers who believe as we do, that government abuses against rural landowners have gone on for far too long and a day of reckoning is at hand.
