Armyanglbby you said "My husband and soldiers like him are fighting to protect the Afghan and Iraqi people from those who would oppress them. "

If that is the reason your husband is fighting then he should be sent back home to you IMMEDIATELY.

Call me unsympathetic, but I see it as being realistic. People are being oppressed all over the world. If "foreign people being oppressed" is the only reason for deployment then why only Afghanistan and Iraq?

Obviously our national interests MUST BE AT STAKE to justify keeping him away from you and risking his life. I don't EVER want to sugarcoat the military. A military exists to kill people and break things. Sounds cruel, yes, but indeed sometimes its necessary.

Too many people tend to want to mistake Soldiers as being police. And while there are some similarities SOLDIERS are NOT COPS!

And because of that I am willing to give soldiers far more latitude than I would cops. I don't believe in restrictive rules of engagement. I believe that soldiers should be able to do practically anything to complete their mission and come home safety. I don't think that will mean that soldiers will go out and kill women and children for fun. I respect these men enough to know they aren't murderers. Yes, there is a difference between "killing" and "murdering". Soldiers should be free to kill. It is a war zone.

The Leftist here who posted that they are committing genocide is evil. Of course they aren't. The problem is the exact Opposite. They are too afraid to "do what it takes".

War is cruel. War MUST BE cruel. War can not be refined.

If our national interests are at stake then they should be there otherwise they shouldn't be. The plight of the Afghan or the Iraqi people can not have an effect on that decision one way or the other.

Because in truth, the lives of a thousand Afghans or Iraqis, aren't worth your husband being away from you, much less risking his life. So, it needs to be about something much more than protecting Iraqis and Afghans. And I believe it is so I support it.

But I am sick of people trying to turn the military into something it shouldn't be. The military is about killing foreigners and breaking their things because we believe they pose a threat. Now I realize sometimes our military can be used on so called "humanitarian" missions but that should be the exception, not the rule and certainly not the focus.

By the way, although I don't want to sugarcoat the military, I don't condemn it. I understand that at times its a necessary evil. And I don't consider soldiers by an large "bad people". They are good people doing what is necessary. Killing doesn't necessarily makes one a bad person. In Okinawa OUR troops would capture Japanese (when they could because the Japs would kill themselves before being allowed to be captured alive) and since they had no means of detaining them after they interrogated them they would shoot them in the head. But that didn't make these people "bad people". It made them people willing to do what it took in the unique situation of war. They then went home to live very decent productive lives. There is a distinction that needs to be made regarding "things down in the battleground" compared to things done in everyday life. Yes, good people can and MUST do things on the battlefield that in everyday life would most deservedly define him as evil. But the point is that they wouldn't do such things in everyday life, and that's the important difference.

And for us, those who don't serve, we don't have the right to condemn what is done in the battlefield on our behalf. Only those who have "been there" have that right.

Sara, I am fully in support of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and I thank them every time I meet one of them. We definitely need them there and since we need them there we need to give them flexibility when it comes to them "doing what it takes" to keep them safe. I am not under any illusions about what we did to the Japanese in the Pacific. That's war and war is cruel. War can't be refined.

But, now admittedly I am looking ahead now, what do I do when they start killing Hondurans? Am I supposed to "thank them" for that?

http://pamroachreport.blogspot.com

Or, even American parents who don't want their children experimented on with risky vaccines.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtmeL1QLA64

I realize that I sleep soundly at night due to the fact that there are rough men out there inflicting violence upon those who would do me harm. But what happens when those who would do me harm are in my own government.

Not a pleasant thought I know but that is where we are headed and we need to get our heads into that mindset.

But again, as for Iraq and Afghanistan while it has cost me a couple of friends (conservatives as I have no liberal friends) I have always supported the troops there. We do have external enemies and we need to defeat those enemies. And in doing so we shouldn't tie the hands of our soldiers as BOTH BUSH and now no doubt Obama has done.

But I also realize that it is a two edged sword. And since we are now facing three more years of Obama (at least I think the Republicans are going to run Romney who will lose as I know I am not alone in saying I will under no circumstance vote for for him so I fear we are really facing 7 years of this Obama) I feel I need to at least bring this up.

I think for all of you who think our brave fighting forces are murdering innocent people, why dont you take advantage of your FREEDOM and go live where our men and women are fighting. Then you can run your ignorant mouths as much as you want and see what happens. You would be begging for someone to protect you.

Stop and count your blessings that you have the LIBERTY to type your opinions on here without regard for the people who are actually touched by this war every day. As the grandaughter, friend, sibling, cousin and soon to be wife of military, I couldn't be prouder of what my family, as well as the other amazing military families out there, have accomplished. I would be willing to bet that YOU too have been touched by war. Someone you love/know/used to know is, or has been, in the military at some point.

Get off your pedestal, find a soldier, and THANK THEM... They deserve it.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/health/Swine_flu/article6734056.ece

More than half of children taking the swine flu drug Tamiflu experience side-effects such as nausea and nightmares, research suggests.

An estimated 150,000 people with flu symptoms were prescribed the drug through a new hotline and website last week, according to figures revealed yesterday.

Studies of children attending three schools in London and one in the South West showed that 51-53 per cent had one or more side-effects from the medication, which is offered to everyone in England with swine flu symptoms.

---

What does this have to do with the topic we are discussing here? Well, here is a reason why some parents might not want to immunize their children. So will we see the National Guard force it upon the parents? Or perhaps our regular military?

Things could get real ugly real fast here.

Oh, in other news....
