“Some back a temporary statewide 1 percent sales tax increase.”
Only rarely is is the phrase “temporary tax” NOT an oxymoron. A recent case in point is the gradual decline in the Canadian GST (goods & services tax), many years after it was promised. And when this happens, the shortfall is usually made up by other taxes.
It is time to eliminate whole departments, not consider an income tax. And I don’t know many folks with income.
