The city of Spokane, an ICLEI city, in its commitment to protect the planet earth will be shutting off their lights for one hour on Saturday, March 27, 2010.
This is in support of the Earth Hour event organized by the World Wildlife Foundation. http://www.myearthhour.org/
The Washington State government endorses the Earth Hour as does San Juan County and many cities. This is a global event with many national landmarks also turning off the electricity in support of promoting cap and trade.
Many of the cities and counties blindly following the global (warming) climate change are members of an international organization called I.C.L.E.I. (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) This organization provides agenda driven research, pathways to grant monies, computer models, and support to keep cities on a road that is committed to following the “Earth Charter”.
All cities are highly encouraged to follow the “Precautionary Principle” which recommends precautionary actions be taken to protect the environment even when there is no scientific basis for the actions.
We believe there is compelling evidence that damage to humans and the worldwide environment, is of such magnitude and seriousness that new principles for conducting human activities are necessary.
Therefore it is necessary to implement the Precautionary Principle: Where an activity raises threats of harm to the environment or human health, precautionary measures should be taken even if some cause and effect relationships are not fully established scientifically
For further research please look at the following websites. ICLEI members are encouraged through grant monies, ideology, and management support to follow the agenda promoted by an international organization and as such does not represent governmental policies written by the local people for the local citizens.
