Friends,
We’ve got a major problem and we need your help to solve
it.
We knew we needed 2830 valid signatures for Longview Initiative #1. So
when we turned in 3628 signatures, about 800 more than required, we figured we
were home free … turns out we’ve got a long way to go.
Last Thursday,
the Cowlitz County Auditor received the petitions and began the signature
verification process.
On Saturday, we were notified that out of 1413
signatures checked so far, they’ve accepted 764 as valid. At that rate, the
initiative will need 865 more voter signatures to be qualified. Let me say that
again: 865!! Ugh!!
We never imagined we’d need THAT MANY
MORE!
Fortunately, state law (RCW 35.17.280) allows us an additional 10
days to collect additional signatures (page 13 -
http://www.mrsc.org/publications/irg06.pdf).
So we hit the PANIC BUTTON and
began collecting more signatures starting last Saturday night.
NOW WE
NEED YOU! This is a huge undertaking with such short notice. One person
can collect about 10 signatures per hour going door-to-door. So the more people
who help, the better. Please, we need your help NOW!
Can you spare
a couple hours one evening this week? We’ll be collecting signatures every
evening this week starting at 5 PM. We’ll meet at my shop right before 5 PM and
head out going door-to-door in neighborhoods in Longview.
My shop is
located at 2111 – 30th Ave in Longview (Computer Store behind Burger King.
Across from Fred Meyer). Call me at 360-270-5670 to let me know when you can
help. I will mark it down on our board.
Scores of supporters have worked
for months to get this far, and now we only have 10 days to get those remaining
865 voter signatures. Help us get Longview Initiative #1 over the finish
line.

Thank You!

Thanks for posting this Doug. It’s been grand watching the red-light camera issue in Longview explode into political relevance by the actions of a few great guys!
It sounds like the powers-that-be are pulling no punches. In Monroe, they are not even going to let the people vote on initiative 1. It’s a sad thing that elected officials won’t let the people vote on these initiatives. These office holders must go!
