In February King County GOP Chair Lori Sotelo, in violation of WSRP Rules 7 and 8, cancelled the 37th district pooled caucus location and established another, without notice. In the wake of his objections Sotleo fired Jonathan Fox, her previous District Chair appointee. On March 1, the District refused to ratify her choice of replacement. On March 3 they refused to elect her pooled caucus appointee and when they refused to take her suggestion to chair the Legislative District Caucus last Saturday, April 21, Lori made national news by going into full tantrum mode and evicting the caucus from its location in violation of State and County rule.
Thursday evening, April 26, the Central Committee of King County’s 37 LD unanimously elected Tamra Smilanich chair of the district, elected ousted chair Jonathan Fox as district vice chair and treasurer and elected Karen Fujita secretary. Tamra is now the only District Chair in King County Lori Sotelo cannot fire at whim.
Tamra will be leading the 37th LD delegation at King County’s Republican Convention on Saturday.
The district’s central committee voted to resume holding monthly district meetings open to all.
