Caught in the act of using party funds to promote his own re-election as WSRP Chair (by paying for and approving mailings to support KCGOP Chair Lori Sotelo’s anointed PCO candidates), Kirby Wilbur whined yesterday that he didn’t know he wasn’t supposed to lend his approval to KCGOP using WSRP’s mailing services for their illegal activities. And then had the gall to blame “those Ron Paul people” for trying to take over the poor beleaguered Republican Party.
Facing a barrage of telephone calls from Central Committee members and bad press across the state, Kirby sent the following Sunday afternoon:
Date: Sunday, July 22, 2012, 5:53 PM
As some of you may have heard, the WSRP allowed KCGOP to use our postage permit to mail out a piece asking folks to vote for certain PCO candidates. I would like to explain my decision to allow this, as some people may be upset. Check the attachments after you read this email, please.
I will apologize for one thing, and that is, I misunderstood the process. I believed that KCGOP could legally reimburse us for the expense. In fact, I assumed every candidate and group and person who we allowed to use our permit could pay us back. This is one asset which we alone have and can help Republicans save a lot of money on postage. I assumed wrong, and WSRP money should not have been used for this.
However, I will not apologize for defending our party, which was the intent here. Attached, is a copy of a mailer put out by , well, your guess is as good as mine. The following points:
1.) The group claims to be “independents reforming the Republican Party”“
2.) It asks non-Republicans to vote for the Republican PCO candidate named on the piece
3.) It has both a donkey and an elephant
4.) It urges the recipient to “ Vote to end the wars “
5.) It calls for a “ non-interventionist foreign policy “
6.) The postal permit is from Tampa, Florida
Doesn’t sound like the RNC or the Romney campaign. Who could it be??????
I am the chairman of this party and have a responsibility to defend it. I will do that. I believe the hard-working PCO’s of King County, the backbone of our party, are the target of a campaign paid for by undisclosed sources. I intended to level the playing field, and I will not hide from the public as these people do – though I think most of you know who they are.
I will reemphasize that there are many good people with the Ron Paul campaign who do want to work within the party and I welcome them. Any group or member of a group that includes people who send out secret mailings with undisclosed sources, asking independents to vote in a Republican election and that won’t identify itself as Republican, they are not welcome here.
So far, the only report of this mailing comes from King County. You all might want to double check and see what these ‘ independent reformers ‘ are doing in your backyard. They are playing to take control of our party. Not on my watch.

Roberta, the photo you chose for this post is priceless! LOL
If the State GOP gets stomped on in November, don’t be surprised if the establishment crowd takes a run at Dino Rossi for state chairperson. Which means the State GOP reorganization meeting in January could get very ugly. Somebody else has to be found to run for state chair and now.
If he was really defending our party, he would not have sued the state to make them run what is supposed to be a private election.
Mr Wilbur is defending a bastardized party that has been infested with “selectively conservative” believers. He is the local shepherd for a herd of sheep who thinks that God gives them the right to protect their lifestyle at all costs – yes, even endless, pointless, deceptive wars. Lost souls these individuals are. They believe Israel and God depend on the U.S. What foolishness. They call out specks of dust in our eyes, but they don’t see the plank in their own.
Like Edward says above these people truly believe these things and occupy the county parties. They are their own version of an ever shrinking populace of occupiers. Mostly motivated by fear and power as the leadership wants them.
Our county chair has made it clear time and again that ‘Constitutionalists’ are undesirables. What a shame there are such a growing number of us.
For many of us Independents looking to the GOP for conservative candidates, Mr. Wilbur has been a great disappointment! But what should we expect? The party is controlled by the Bellevue Mafia (2 has been politicians, Dan Evans & Slade Gorton) who haven’t run for an office for 20 years; their idea of conservative candidates are Dino Rossi (3 time loser), Rob McKenna (Gregoire in pants), Bill, the Fink, Finkbeiner, and Reagan Dunn (Mr. Gay Marriage himself!)! Until the state party tells Evans and Gorton to stop blowing sunshine up our butt, the GOP will not gain support in this state! When you think back on it, the best Governor we had in the last century was Dixie Lee Ray, a Democrat!
