Republican Futures: Investing in Roanoke or the RLC

The best of all its possible futures passed before the Washington State Republican Party in the guise of visions cast the weekend of January 25^th – 27^th   All the elements that will decide the Republican fate (what the Party will do, and receive in return for their efforts) were on display. But since those visions were cast in two conferences, held simultaneously (as luck would have it) in two hotels in two cities (NOT as should happen, in a common State Convention), not one single person actually saw them all. There were no rebuttals or counter-arguments to any proposal at either pole. And the Party as a whole will not, by majority vote of elected representatives, decide its own direction.

The Republican Party’s immediate future will be decided, once again, by disjointed outcomes of lethal (though veiled), predictable conflicts over its long established internal contradictions between elitist leaders and their grass roots subjects. But this time it will not only be by hot, winner-take-all backroom campaign assassination, infiltration, and capitulation but also by unprecedented wide-open state-wide R3VOLUTION. And no one yet knows which future – or combination of futures – will emerge as the real future…

The Witches of Midstream cast dark ingredients into their cauldron at Ocean Shores… bat whiskers? mummified toenails? vampire blood?

You had to be there to see…

…but the Reagan Wing had clandestine observers and we will give you a glimpse into the pot.

And from the Conservative Wing of the Party, the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) held a similar conference in Yakima. Similar? Yes. The tables were round… the speakers used a microphone… the floor was flat… but after that the differences  were  striking. But by my observation the RLC itself presented two sharply contrasting internal views of the immediate future of the Conservative (read “Liberty”) movement and its resultant impact on the Republican future. Through the magic of the internet we will take you there.

All three visions of the Party’s future were involved in head-on collisions on Facebook and at a Lori Sotelo “ratification” soiree Wednesday evening. And the Reagan Wing will help you identify the bodies pulled from the wreckage.

Perhaps we can read the future in their entrails.
