Principles

‘Presidents come and go. History comes and goes, but principles endure…’

–Ronald Reagan on receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom,

The White House, January 13,1993

Acknowledgement of God.

The affirmation by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence that all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” establishes a Law and obligation higher than human government to which governments are obligated. This is the true foundation of American Freedom. It is why our Constitutioin, first and foremost, protects us from government, itself. If God is removed from the equation, government becomes the arbiter of rights and not, in the final analysis, subject to them.

That is why the right to freedom of religion protected by the Constitution is both inclusive of, and broader than, the freedom of speech and freedom of the press. Any ‘separation’ of church and state must be attended by an equal ‘separation’ of the press and state, for people of faith are not less empowered by the First Amendment than the media, but more so. Churches have precisely the same Constitutional right to engage in politics that newspapers do, but further, are specifically protected from exclusion from the public square based on the content of their speech. Judges who have ruled to the contrary are in willful violation of our highest laws.

“I was pleased, last year to proclaim 1983 the year of the Bible. But, you know, a group called the ACLU severely criticized me for doing that. Well, I wear their indictment like a badge of honor. I believe I stand in pretty good company.”

 – Ronald Reagan, 1984

The Right to Life

At the moment of biological conception, human beings acquire a right to life that is inalienable and cannot be infringed or modified except by their own act. People meet their death in many ways, but it must not be at the hand of another human being, except as the punishment for a crime for which the legal penalty is death and for which they have been convicted by due legal process. Governments, further, have a moral obligation to protect innocent human life, without discrimination. That is their primary duty.

“Simple morality dictates that unless and until someone can prove the unborn human is not alive, we must give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it is. And thus, it should be entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

 – Ronald Reagan, 1982

Return to Constitutional Law

The U.S. Constitution, asserting, first, the liberties of the people and the States, was the foundation for the most successful “experiment” in the history of government. Our amazing growth in wealth, power, and technology is just a side effect of establishing a nation on liberty, bounded only by moral laws. Today it has largely been progressively discarded by lawless judges who think they have a better idea. We must, at all costs, return to Constitutional Law, to the first principles.

“Since the politicization of the law has, for half a century, moved results steadily to the left, a very large number of Americans do not like those outcomes. Increasingly, they are not deceived by the claim that those results are compelled by the actual Constitution.”

 –Justice Robert Bork,

The Tempting of America, The Political Seduction of the Law   ©1990

Property Rights for People not Government

The subjugation of a people need not depend on the open adoption of slavery. If you have arbitrary control the use of land you control the people on the land. We must expose and reverse the impending and ongoing eradication of our liberty posed by the blatant frauds of ‘Environmentalism’ and ‘Growth Management’. The environment itself demands it.

“We’ve gone astray from first principles. We’ve lost sight of the rule that individual freedom and ingenuity are at the very core of everything that we’ve accomplished. Government’s first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives.”

~ Ronald Reagan, 1981

Limiting Government mandates and spending to Constitutional boundaries

If the government blueprint was to simply take every dime the public earns and spend it you could have a balanced budget. True Fiscal Conservatism means opposition to using Government to re-distribute, or attempt to create, wealth or to arbitrarily structure the economy. The prosperity of America was built on this principle.

“The bottom line is that all the so-called budget cuts have been reductions only in the rate of increase usually in what Congress refers to as the ‘uncontrollables’. . . There’ve been no cuts in the budgets. There have only been smaller increases than some of our big spenders would have preferred.”

 – Ronald Reagan, 1982

 A Child’s right to a Traditional Family

Heterosexual monogamy is central to the nature of civilized life. The abandonment of human morality by government is the precursor to despicable tyranny. The re-establishment of traditional morality will be the foundation of economic and social renewal.

“Through love and instruction, discipline, guidance and example, we learn from our mothers and fathers the values that will shape our private lives and our public citizenship.”

 – Ronald Reagan, Father’s Day, 1981

Parent-directed Education

We must rescue our education system (and, hence, our children) from the new-age radicals of the left and restore discipline, academics and excellence.

”Both our public and our private schools exist to aid our families in the instruction of our children, and it’s time some people back in Washington stopped acting as if family wishes were only getting in the way.”

~ Ronald Reagan, 1982

Return to Justice

Americans have a right, not only to laws whose sole purpose is the enactment of justice, but to serious, consistent enforcement of those laws by a system that has the highest internal standards of integrity and ethics. Our government executives, from the President of the United States, down through all Federal agencies and judicial branches, governors, state and local agencies and bureaucracies, mayors, county executives, attorneys general and prosecutors at every government level cannot be above the law, but, to the contrary, must be held to greater accountability by their position of public trust. Judges who knowingly invent law, unintended by Constitution or legislation, Prosecutors or police who knowingly persecute innocent defendants, who commit or condone perjury, who commit violence against innocents or who plant, disfigure or obscure evidence, all must be subject to penalties greater than would be applied to a private citizen in similar circumstances. They are the enemies of freedom, of law and justice. They are the enemies of America and their behavior cannot be tolerated.

“From their own harsh experience with intrusive, overbearing government, the Founding Fathers made a great breakthrough in political understanding: They understood that it is the excesses of government, the will to power of one man over another, that has been a principle source of injustice and human suffering through the ages. ”

 ~ Ronald Reagan, 1983

Second Amendment Rights

The chief purpose of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is not now, nor ever was, for hunting, or recreation but protection; both from crime and tyranny. Erosion and eradication of this right is a prerequisite for the totalitarianism of the Left, but upholding and restoring it is the duty of men who love Freedom.

“It’s a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun control laws. I happen to know this from personal experience.”

~ Ronald Reagan, speech to National Rifle Association.

Victory-based National Defense

Protecting our homeland, and Americans abroad, from hostile powers is a function of our government that is, both, legitimate and primary. Our military objectives must be, not simply to fight, but to win. It is not a responsibility that can be abdicated by compromise or for political gain.

“America seeks no new territory nor do we wish to dominate others. We commit our resources and risk the lives of those in our Armed Forces to rescue others from bloodshed and turmoil and to prevent humankind from drowning in a sea of tyranny.”

~ Ronald Reagan 1983

“If we must fight, we should do so with overwhelming force, win as quickly as possible and promptly withdraw.  We do not engage in nation-building.”

~ Ronald Paul 2009

Sovereign, Secure Borders

Today the left seeks to confuse the invasion of America by criminal aliens with legitimate immigration. America ’s Sovereignty demands not just the right and responsibility to define citizenship and legal residency, but the obligation to defend the nation by securing the borders and exacting penalties against foreign insurgents. We should offer legitimate asylum to the victims of Socialist Tyranny, as in Cuba, or of Primeval Islam, as in Iran or Saudi Arabia, but invaders who reject US sovereignty must be given punishments adequate to deter their crimes, not a position to immigrate that favors them over those who have not been allowed to come. Our history and Constitution confirm that those who ignore our laws and live by fraud are not suitable candidates for citizenship at all. Illegal aliens who have profited financially by intentionally violating American Law, and who do not voluntarily return to their own country, should be permanently barred from legal residency.

“What would President Reagan do? For one thing, he would not repeat the mistakes of the past, including those of his own administration. He knew that secure borders are vital, and would now insist on meeting that priority first. He would seek to strengthen the enforcement of existing immigration laws.”

~ Edwin Meese, U.S. Attorney General under Ronald Reagan
