w-nrlc-shoulder.jpgIn Part Two we saw how Fred Thompson was the last man that could have pulled the old Reagan Coalition back together without re-building, without major surgery, without  re-engineering the Party, without a brokered National Convention. I reported that he is the candidate the Clintons least wanted to face (by their own estimation, not mine). We noted that he even got the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee. But I also made the outlandish claim that they destroyed his 2008 Presidential candidacy.

alice-falling-80.jpgIn the final chapters of “Lewis Carroll’s” (Charles Dodgson’s) 1865 Classic, “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” Alice (in her dream) attends a bizarre trial. The conduct of the proceedings by the “judge” (The King of Hearts), the testimony of the witnesses, and the whimsical mindlessness of the jurors merge in a disjointed hilarity that seems a little too familiar.

Coming to a verdict in Wonderland at one point involves writing down a series of dates from an appointment calendar, adding their numbers and reducing the sum to currency. At another, it involves deciding whether lack of evidence is “important” or “unimportant” based on which of those words sounds better in a sentence.

All of the major players in the scene have incompatible ideas of what is actually taking place, different criteria for making decisions, and absolutely no ability to understand what any of the other characters is thinking, saying or doing or why they are thinking, saying or doing it. Alice, on the verge of waking up, finally says, “You’re nothing but a pack of cards!”

In other words, it is a perfect picture of the 2008 Republican Nomination contest.

Who are the players in our surrealistic drama?

The Mainstream Media, it is clear, has had a lot of fun acting as arbiters of the process for the Party they hate, with an obvious, single objective: to reduce the field of those competing to only candidates who have absolutely no real intention of returning to the Reaganesque agenda of shrinking government to Constitutional limits.

They have a lot of help:

Groups thought to be charter members  of that old Reagan coalition, having drifted apart over the course of our decade of philosophical famine, have each come forward to push candidates unacceptable to other members. (more…)

paul-huck-julie-mitt-fred-75.jpgFrom what I can tell, Fred Thompson was the consensus winner of the South Carolina Fox/GOP debate Thursday evening and, for his candidacy, not a moment too soon.

Having seen what Fred can do rhetorically back in April, 2007, having investigated his positions as his candidacy “unfolded” in the “testing the waters” period, I expected three things to happen: (more…)

the-fox.jpgAt one time there was a virtual media monopoly.

“Mainstream” media (MSM) were the only media. Broadcast news had four sources: ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. They were all liberal. Wm. F. Buckley’s “Firing Line,” which was broadcast only irregularly, at the mercy and whim of liberal PBS affiliates, was the only exception. You may not remember it.

Four events changed that regime of distortion and censorship:

Based on their published positions, political promises and past actions in public office on the Immigration issue, both legal and illegal, we have rankings of the Republican  Contenders for the 2008 Presidential Nomination. There are still two tiers and a few surprises. Here, not on hype, but detailed analysis,  is the clear winner; the surprise, down to the wire, photo-finish loser, and the six runners-up:

candidate-immigration-rankings.jpg

As you can see, the Media/elite’s first tier is the conservative Illegal Immigration second tier, and vice-versa. I wonder why that is? (more…)

donfeder.jpg For a connoisseur of hypocrisy, the shifting immigration stands of three GOP candidates is a banquet.

Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney have begun doing passable impressions of Lou Dobbs. But can you trust a candidate whose record contradicts his campaign rhetoric? (That was a rhetorical question.)

Schindler Family Asks George Stephanopoulos and Mainstream Media to Correct Inaccurate Reporting Regarding Terri’s True Medical Conditionsteponallofus.jpg

TAMPA, Fla.,/CNW/ – On Nov. 18, during the program This Week, George Stephanopoulos, in an interview with Senator Fred Thompson, commented that Terri Schiavo’s autopsy proved she was “brain dead.” The New York Times also reported on this interview, repeating that the autopsy proved Terri was “brain dead.”

This is patently and demonstrably false and Terri’s family is requesting that the media immediately stop using this offensive and inaccurate expression to describe her condition.  (more…)

blood-water.jpgWhat a week.

In our last episode Hillary took both positions on driver’s licenses for illegals under the polite, but persistent questioning of (Democrat) Tim Russert and began falling precipitously in the polls.

Her campaign’s reaction did not work: getting NY Gov. Spitzer to reverse himself on the issue, assuming girl-victim status, attacking Russert and threatening Wolf Blitzer, tonight’s debate moderator . This should be a really interesting debate. (more…)

Politics Jaded. Prayer Works. Who Knew?

FredThe Trigger

It started Sunday, November 4th. Fred Thompson, the man whom many conservatives hoped would be “the next Ronald Reagan”, committed the un-Reaganesque thumbing of nose at the pro-life plank of the Republican Party platform. It happened on “Meet the Press”.  Tim Russert, his persistent interviewer, read the entire plank aloud, and asked for Thompson’s position on it.  He opposed it.  It was a serious blow to many of his pro-life supporters.

Committed pro-lifers who are fairly new to the 30 year debate over how best to strategically end legalized abortion, might consider his mere opposition to supporting a Human Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution acceptable, especially in light of his support for overturning Roe vs. Wade.  If one considered it long enough, one would realize that his position, supporting the overturning of Roe, and then leaving it to the states, would have allowed slavery to continue in some states.

But it gets worse.  When pressed, Thompson said, that although he believes that life begins at conception, and that abortion is the taking of a human life, he doesn’t believe it ought to be “criminalized” (read: made illegal).

The blow set off….  (more…)

ronaldreagan2.jpgAs many of you know, Fred Thompson made it clear on Sunday that there will be no “next Ronald Reagan” appearing in the 2008 Presidential election. This, despite my hopes that Fred’s great communication ability, together with his constitutional, fiscal and foriegn policy conservatism (my opinion), would cross the final line to full support of the cause of human life and lead the reconstruction of the Revolution we so desperately need.

31009336.jpgLast Sunday in the Florida presidential debates, Fred Thompson made a statement of tremendous historic political  significance:

“Part of the problem in our education system and with our children has to do with the societal breakdown that’s going on in this country. We need more fathers to stay and raise their kids.”

This is the first time that anyone in national politics has connected the dots between fathers not being able to be fathers, and many our greatest social and economic problems.  (more…)

It was mentioned here the other day, that Fred Thompson had joined the “three headed RINO” in snubbing Joseph Farah and Phyllis Sclafly, by avoiding the upcoming “Values Voters” debate.  Here’s what Farah, founder and CEO of of World Net Daily had to say in his latest column, The GOP Gutless Wonders

Would you elect a man president of the United States who was afraid of tough questioning from Phyllis Schlafly or Star Parker?

Would you consider voting for a man who had better things to do than to talk to an audience of millions concerned about the assault on family values?

What would you say to front-running GOP presidential candidates who take your vote for granted because they think you have nowhere to go?

These are some of the questions you should be pondering today as we get ready for a Republican presidential debate next Monday in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – a debate in which four major contenders will be conspicuously absent.

They are: Willard “Mitt” Romney, Rudolph Giuliani, John McCain and Fred Thompson.

I, for one, am particularly disappointed in Thompson, who has not yet participated in a single GOP debate. This one would have been his first opportunity since officially announcing his candidacy. He could have changed all the dynamics. He could have made this debate the biggest national news story of the day. He could have forced others to join the debate. But, he, too, had better things to do….(click here to read the rest of “The GOP Gutless Wonders”.)

ph2007072002143.jpgSince Fred Thompson has managed thus far, to run his campaign, avoiding every debate that the other candidates have had to endure, Life of the Party thought it was time he actually answered some substantive questions instead of just giving us platitudes on the issue of Human Life.  This letter was submitted in the little box that his campaign website gives, so I made it short and sweet.  (more…)

As the much anticipated “conservative messiah” makes his big announcement on the JAY LENO070502_thompson_vmed_10a_widec_2 SHOW, the news is in that he joins the “three headed RINO” in snubbing the Values Voters.  (Via the New York Sun)

Mayor Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, and Senator McCain are all declining to participate in a September 17 debate in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., that’s being hosted by an umbrella social-conservative group called ValuesVoter.org. Social conservatives will be upset; other conservatives might well be heartened by the waning power of the religious right.

A number of second-tier Republican candidates have confirmed attendance at the event, according to the news site WorldNetDaily.com, whose editor, Joseph Farah, is slated to moderate the debate. They include Rep. Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee, Rep. Tom Tancredo, Senator Brownback, Rep. Ron Paul, and John Cox.
