With the fading picture of Ronald Reagan still haunting my memory, I entered Basking & Robbin’ and found an unexpected line in front of the counter. I looked up at the menu board. This month’s flavor was Newt Gingrich. A cone was less than three dollars.
“Can I still get some Herman Cain?” asked one tall fellow.
“Yes, but there’s not much left,” came the answer from behind the counter, “that will be $13.95.”
“Cain was 9.99 last week!” complained the customer.
From behind the counter: “He’s no longer the flavor of the month. We had a lot when he was flavor of the month. Right now we have several hundred gallons of Newt Gingrich we have to move.” (more…)

I got an opportunity to hear Presidential candidate Gary Johnson speak, to meet him and question him directly, early in 2010. He is not pro-life. I do not support his candidacy. But his recently released open letter to RNC Chair Reince Priebus is of unsurpassed significance. Everyone in the Republican Party should read it.

The train has left the station. You don’t need no ticket. Are you on board? Or will you be racing down the platform to try to catch it?
If you consider yourself a “conservative” or a “republican” or both, and don’t realize the train is rolling, then you haven’t been paying attention to the subtext of “conservative” talk show hosts from locals David Boze, (now local) Michael Medved, and the plethora of hollering national show hosts who manage to put bread on the table by yelling and talking over their guests for several hours a day.
