roanoke podium wilburIn his reelection/inaugural speech on Jan. 19th, State GOP Chair, Kirby Wilbur, announced, “I voted for Mitt Romney and Rob McKenna and I’m not ashamed because the worst Republican is better than the best Democrat!”

It could have been a fitting introduction to the Roanoke Conference six days later. Because for three days, Wilbur – and the  Conference – pondered how the Party could continue to run Washington State’s worst Republicans – the kind for whom Wilbur has worked overtime securing nominations – and still find a way to stop  their epidemic of losses to the best Democrats. *

And over the course of the Conference the latest “New Direction” emerged. (more…)

In the hands of Midstream Republicans the fortunes of the Washington State Republican Party have gotten worser and worser. And at periodic low point (like 1992, 1996,  2004,  2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012) Party Bosses predictably regroup, post-election, to contemplate their navel, blame conservatives, paint a happy face on their own performance, conclude that they must move even further left, and promise that under their leadership success is just around the corner .CRUISE SHIP GROUNDED

.

It always happens.

Any seasoned Washington State Conservative could simply read the list of speakers to know that the Roanoke Conference had planned just such a series of meditations in disingenuous Republican liberalism for the Ocean Shores Convention Center the weekend of Jan. 25–27. Fans of that movement could not have been disappointed.

What have they been smoking? (more…)

RLCThe best of all its possible futures passed before the Washington State Republican Party in the guise of visions cast the weekend of January 25th – 27th   All the elements that will decide the Republican fate (what the Party will do, and receive in return for their efforts) were on display. But since those visions were cast in two conferences, held simultaneously (as luck would have it) in two hotels in two cities (NOT as should happen, in a common State Convention), not one single person actually saw them all. There were no rebuttals or counter-arguments to any proposal at either pole. And the Party as a whole will not, by majority vote of elected representatives, decide its own direction. (more…)

Rob McKenna (from an email blast paid for by  Friends of Rob McKenna) wants to see you in Ocean Shores…”at the 4th annual  … [Midstream] Roanoke Conference … Washington State’s premier gathering of Republicans…”

We are told some who were headed to Ocean Shores to hear such “premier” Republicans as Slade Gorton, have in the wake of Kirby’s coronation last Saturday, cancelled their plans and are headed for Yakima instead, for the first statewide event of the Republican Liberty Caucus to (more…)

When Kirby Wilbur ran for Chair of the Washington State Republican Party, there were two possibilities. The Reagan Wing began to consider them each here.

targetedKirby had the choice to become the reformer the Party desperately needs, as he implied to conservatives when he campaigned for that office, or become the most dangerous counterfeit and predator to hold the chairmanship since Jennifer Dunn, VanceKirbySeparated at Birthusing the power of the chair to advance the cause of Republican Liberalism.  We have, in the correspondence below, more of what is now a conclusive case that the question has been answered. Garry Pagon has responded to  the allegations, here at the Reagan Wing, that he is a Romney activist in Santorum skin and I find his comments remarkable. Here they are, unedited:

I got an email first thing this morning from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. That’s how I knew. Jesse Helms passed heavenward on July 4th 2008. What a year.

I have fleeting impressions of Helms who was engaged in the heaviest political battles at a time when I was engaged in basic political growth and development.

I remember he was the target of left-wing hate speech and scurrilous distortions (from both Parties) for being on point in the fight against the destruction of American Liberty and Culture. (more…)
