It’s a saying dating from the mid-19th century, frequently used, according to Oxford, “in the context of a regrettable political necessity which is said to be justified because it will benefit the majority.”
Lenin, the ruthless murdering Communist Revolutionary, uttered it frequently, and the blood spattering the path of his career has so completely clarified the metaphor, that it no longer needs explanation. The phrase is even now attributed to him.
The monolithic power of Communist government is the “omelet” and the “eggs” are the human bodies its revolution breaks, the lives it scrambles pursuant to its “hope and change.” It is the breaking down of all morality, all law, all forms of resistance, whether intellectual or political that, of necessity, must precede and accompany the blind obedience to totalitarian dictate that this “transformation of society” entails. That is the prescription of Vladimir Lenin, Friedrich Engels and Marx (Karl, not Groucho).
But we have had to wait until the 21st Century to find a political movement capable of the reverse on so large a scale.
Securing the nomination for a man that a relatively small minority liked at all, and large pluralities disliked enthusiastically, required that a tiny top Party elite bend, fold, spindle and mutilate virtually every rule and ethic that held the Party together, as well as strong-arming countless subservient officials and staff to “follow orders” in a parade of blatant infractions that might have made Lyndon Johnson or Richard “Boss” Daley blush back in the sixties.
In Washington State we hold documentation of fraudulent election practices from the precinct caucuses up through Legislative and Councilmanic District caucuses, and beyond County Conventions.
Now, for those in Rio Linda, I must point out that I’m not “comparing” the WSRP to Lenin (or even Lennon).
Nevertheless, at the State Convention, alone, Luke Esser, his Staff, Committee Chairs and Executive Board, “working seamlessly” with State Attorney General Rob McKenna’s McCain Staff and County officers and acting, not as impartial officials of a Political Party (as is required), but as ruthless McCain Campaign Partisans (as is prohibited), cheated in credentials, cheated in arrangements, cheated in rules, cheated in nominations, cheated in vote counting, openly and admittedly violated State Law, cheated in Platform, over and over again, and finally attempted to shut down the entire convention by illegally walking out. This last exercise successfully drew hundreds of Republican grassroots representatives in to collusion (with “the McCain team”) to violate their responsibilities to the constituents that sent them there, in open contempt for Roberts Rules of Order.
Broken rules, broken laws, broken relationships… Where, now, is the omelet?
John McCain not only failed to win the Presidency, He did not win the Republican Nomination. He stole it, by fraud, and the victims are not just the trampled majority of conservative activists across the nation who now fuel the Tea Party, Glen Beck “912” and Campaign for Liberty Movements and occasionally talk of Third Parties…
It is the whole diehard middle leadership of the Party, who, through loyalty to the elite, violated their own ethics and put their positions under a moral cloud. “Demoralized” is the word. The rules, the procedures and the leadership structures of the Party from top to bottom look like a demolition site, walls crumbling, pillars akimbo. All that, without even considering the foundation principles McCain laid waste in his campaign.
The only “beneficiary” of these breakings is the shrinking clique of “loyalists” whose sole remaining agenda has become circling the wagons closer and closer as fundraising is scarce, staff turnover is rampant and their ranks diminish.
Washington State Chair Luke Esser has replaced Party Treasurer Ed Mitchell of Kitsap County amid state-wide rumors of financial misconduct and the disappearance of other personnel. At the recent State Committee meeting Luke stood and said the change of the federally-required officer was “by mutual arrangement.”
Brent Boger has been replaced as By-Laws chair in the wake of his failure to give Esser censorship powers over State Committee motions. Nan Malin “internationally known twitter expert,” has recommended eliminating fully half of our Republican State Conventions altogether. King County’s own Phil Bevis secured the authority to “explore” the more moderate idea of renting Convention facilities that are too small for the number of allotted delegates.
The Titanic had a similar lifeboat strategy.
