Yesterday the Republican Contest for the 2012 Presidential nomination kicked off with the first official event. The Iowa Caucuses ended in a three-way tie.
Like Washington, Iowa elects delegates through a caucus-based system, a series of meetings held throughout the state under Roberts Rules of Order that elect delegates who will (with the delegates of other States) CHOOSE THE NOMINEE at the National Convention in Tampa. Also, like Washington, there is a presidential straw poll which effects NOTHING.
Right now the Republican race is a dead heat. Here are the results:
And based on the results we can expect:
- Everyone except Romney, Santorum, Bachmann and Paul will say Iowa means little. (Bachmann has dropped out)
- Romney will celebrate that he still has not lost his voters (the same 23-25% that voted for his father),
- Rick Santorum will look up at the sky hoping it will now rain money, and
- Ron Paul will say we need to bring the troops home and end the Fed
