Susan Hutchison has come up with four New Year’s resolutions for 2014, broadcast via the party’s twitter feed.
I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at each resolution and talk about them, so here we go.
Resolution 1: Elect at least one more Republican to the State senate, winning a clear majority to stop [Governor] Inslees’s worst excesses.†
Seems like a real lofty goal doesn’t it? Just win one more seat in the state senate. Personally, I think Susan should shoot a lot higher than this.
Another thing: what kind of a Republican is Susan talking about? If she is talking about Travis Couture, then I think he would be a great choice for the one senate seat. If, on the other hand, she is talking about another mid-streamer we don’t need that and whoever is that candidate will have a very hard time winning.
Another question is if it is someone like Travis will that person get the support that Jan Angel received from the State GOP? They gave Jan a lot of support as well as $20,000 for her campaign. Jan deserved the help and support she got from the State GOP. I happen to believe that any candidate that makes it out of a contested primary that the GOP stays out of deserves that level of support.
Resolution 2: Make gains in the House allowing us to offer a forceful united GOP alternative to Inslee’s agenda.†
There are a number of good candidates running for the house this next election cycle. I think there are some real possibilities for serious gains. The same thing needs to happen with House candidates that make it out of a contested primary that the GOP stays out of. They deserve the support of the State GOP.
Resolution 3: Mount an aggressive campaign to win the 1st CD seat held by liberal Democrat Suzan DelBene.†
This race has the potential for a very explosive primary. As it stands right now there is one official candidate and that is Ed Moats. Ed seems like a very worthy candidate and I hope the GOP supports him. But will they?
I have it on very good authority that Susan is seriously trying to convince Kathy Lambert to run for this seat. Yes the Kathy Lambert that is on the King County Council. She does in fact live in the 1st CD. Its my humble opinion that Susan should never have made this a New Years resolution. Why? A political party should never make a statement about a political race before they know who is actually running, especially before a primary.
My biggest question is, did Susan say this as an attempt to convince Kathy Lambert to run or is she serious about winning this seat no matter who the candidate ends up being. Only time will tell.
Resolution 4: GOP unity (conservative, libertarian, moderate) on our principles of liberty and opportunity: the way to win in WA.†
As some of you may know I have known Susan for almost 10 years and I knew from the moment I met her that she had a gift for uniting people. There is no question in my mind and heart that she can do this. The problem is, after that terrible campaign she ran for King county executive in 2009 she lost the trust of a lot of conservatives. She has yet to get it back and under the present circumstances probably won’t be able to.
Consider this. Wednesday night I received an email from Susan Hutchison on behalf of the State GOP inviting me to the Roanoke conference this weekend. This is the first time I can ever recall a state chairman inviting anyone to an unofficial GOP event. If she thinks that the Roanoke conference is a way of uniting party members she is dead wrong. Claiming in the invite that hundreds of conservatives will descend on Ocean Shores this weekend is pure fiction. Why would any liberty minded person want to attend a conference where the people that are putting on the event blame Ron Paul and his supporters for their political problems?
Susan is very inexperienced in the WSRP’s twisted internal affairs and because of this she is listening to the wrong people. Unless she wises up and starts seeking out people like Christian Berrigan, Doug Parris, and David Adams this unfortunately will be her undoing.
[Editor’s note: Phil’s recommended list of advisers for Susan was neither suggested, approved nor disapproved by Doug Parris or any other Reagan Wing author or editor.]
